678 FXUS65 KGGW 240632 AFDGGWArea Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT 1232 AM MDT Wed Sep 24 2025
.DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGES:
- Warm temperatures will decrease a bit after today due to a few dry cold frontal passages tomorrow and Friday.
- The next disturbance is forecast to arrive on Tuesday next week, but uncertainty is high for precipitation with this system.
WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: An upper level ridge moving over western Montana will bring warm and dry conditions. The trough that moved through Montana earlier this week has deepened and formed a quasi omega block with another low off the southern California coast. Zonal flow over northern Montana and Canada will keep the region dry and drive southwest flow today. A shortwave in this zonal flow aloft will flatten the ridge enough tonight to allow a weak cold front through the forecast area with somewhat cooler temperatures on Thursday. A dry upper trough on Friday will cool temperatures a few more degrees and bring breezy conditions. There is high confidence a Lake Wind Advisory will be needed for Thursday night into Friday.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Increased winds with a mix of the NBM and NBM 90 for Day 1 and Day 2 night. Increased wave heights for the arrival of the cold front on Thursday night into Friday. Confidence is covered in the discussion above.
