1755 - A magnitude 8.7 earthquake devastated Lisbon, Portugal, on this day, killing as many as 50,000 people. The epicenter was located 120 miles west-southwest of Cape St. Vincent. In addition, many individuals who sought safety on the Tagus River were killed by an estimated 20-foot tall tsunami that struck 40 minutes after the earthquake.

About Brockton, Montana

Brockton is a census-designated place and former town in Roosevelt County, Montana, United States. The population was 358 at the 2020 census.

Brockton's first post office was established in 1904. Fort Peck Indian Reservation was opened to non-Native settlers in 1913 and the town boomed. It was incorporated in 1952, and was disincorporated on January 23, 2018.
