.SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday) Issued at 143 PM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025

Expect overnight lows in the 60s. An upper level trough will track across the Plains tonight into Thursday. This will send a weak cold front into north Texas and eventually into northern portions of the Big Country late Thursday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible across mainly the northern Big Country Thursday afternoon, but most of this activity will remain north of the area. Highs will be near to slightly above normal, in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

.LONG TERM... (Thursday night through next Wednesday) Issued at 154 PM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025

An upper level high will be over Mexico Friday into the weekend. The system is forecast to retrograde a bit and be over northwestern Mexico or the Baja region Monday. This will place our area on its northeastern to eastern periphery with west-northwest flow aloft becoming northwesterly. With this setup, a couple of embedded disturbances could move over our area and bring a possibility of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms. At this time, it the higher PoPs look to be in our eastern counties Sunday and Monday, primarily in the afternoon and evening hours. Daily high temperatures will be above normal, more notably Sunday and Monday.

For Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, an upper low is progged to drop southeast over portions of the Plains and Midwest, but the medium range models continue to differ with the placement of this low. In either case, the setup should allow a weak cold front to move south into our area Tuesday. This will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms to our area, but details with rain chances and possible rainfall amounts are uncertain. With an increase in cloud cover and passage of the weak cold front, temperatures look to be a little cooler and closer to normal.
