.DISCUSSION...
High pressure continues to build through midweek, bringing afternoon highs up past normal. Wednesday continues to look to be the warmest day of the week with valley highs in the upper 70s and Sierra highs pushing the low 70s. Chilly overnight lows are expected to subside through midweek before another weather system brings overnight lows back below freezing along the Sierra this weekend.
A low pressure centered along the coast of British Columbia drops down this week, and will stall along the coast of the PacNW before pivoting inland Friday. The timing of this pivot inland is a bit up in the air as models attempt to resolve the relatively "small" feature. What we do know, though, is that afternoon wind gusts will continue to increase each afternoon Wednesday through Friday, peaking Friday afternoon. Gusts Friday are expected to exceed 30-35 mph across much of the area. We are also confident in a significant cooldown this weekend, with 5-15 degree temperature drops across the area from Friday into Saturday; highs will be in the 60s for valley locations and mid 50s for Sierra communities.
The aforementioned uncertainty will most prominently be seen in the timing of the system as well as the amounts associated. As of now, precipitation chances are highest (40-60%) Friday evening for NE CA and north of the Tahoe Basin. Amounts look to be light (0.1-0.3") and possible snowfall totals have trended downward with this system. However, that doesn`t mean some flurries aren`t possible; snow levels will range from 7-8 kft during the bulk of this system.
