Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wilmington OH 153 PM EDT Fri Sep 26 2025

.SYNOPSIS... Dry conditions and above normal temperatures are expected through the weekend. Above normal temperatures will continue into the beginning of next week, becoming closer to normal around the middle of the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Cu will be present today. High clouds will start to work in across portions of the region late in the overnight. Some fog will be possible again tonight, however do not expect it to be as widespread or as dense as last night. Dry conditions are expected for the near term.

High temperatures are expected to be in the middle 70s to around 80 today and lows tonight are expected to drop into the 50s tonight.

&&

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... Some additional Cu and high clouds will be possible for Saturday. Dry conditions are expected to continue for the short term. Highs are expected to be in the upper 70s to low 80s on Saturday with lows Saturday night will drop down into the 50s.

&&

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... On Sunday morning, an upper trough will be located over the Appalachian mountains, with ridging building into the Mississippi Valley and the Great Lakes. Surface high pressure will also develop in the vicinity of the northern extent of the ridge, with this surface high expected to move east across the Great Lakes from Sunday into Monday. The overall weather pattern favors generally higher surface pressures and heights to the north of the Ohio Valley going into the week. The main question will be regarding the track of a tropical system (AL94) moving through the Carolinas.

Confidence is highest in dry weather and generally warmer temperatures through Sunday and Monday, with strong model agreement in high pressure remaining in place. Highs on Sunday and Monday, generally forecast to be in the lower 80s, would be around 4-8 degrees above normal for late September. Beyond that, there is considerable uncertainty in the track of the tropical system, its strength, and in particular how far northwest it moves. These factors will be influenced by upper level steering flow, and also by the strength of the ridging over the Great Lakes. At this time, all model and ensemble guidance suggests that impacts to the ILN forecast area would be minor -- with somewhat-increased easterly winds and maybe a day or two with some chances for rain. Confidence is much too low to even pinpoint a specific day or location where this may occur, although chances will be higher with southeastward extent. Otherwise, in terms of sensible weather impacts, this system will lead to a greater probability of increased cloud cover and lower temperatures as the week progresses.
