.SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/... Issued at 402 AM MDT Thu Sep 18 2025

KCYS radar and observations early this morning show showers have moved out of the CWA. The upper-level low responsible for the precipitation over the last few days has moved eastward into South Dakota. As a result, coverage of precipitation has decreased. However, wrap around moisture on the backside of the low has contributed to low stratus currently being observed across the eastern half of the CWA. Wrap around moisture and calm winds may also lead to some patchy fog this morning. Low stratus will begin to dissipate later this morning as the low continues to slowly move eastward. Due to the sluggish nature of this system, clouds will be slow to clear out of the Nebraska panhandle. A few stray showers could also make it into the panhandle through the morning and into the afternoon hours. By the evening, most clouds and any lingering showers should be out of the CWA. With the low gradually moving out, warmer temperatures will move into the area. High temperatures today will be almost 10 degrees warmer than Wednesday thanks to more sunshine and warmer and drier air aloft.

Early Friday morning, a weak upper-level shortwave will graze the northern tier of the CWA. This shortwave will have enough lift and moisture to generate a few showers Friday morning. Locations in Niobrara County and the northern Nebraska panhandle may wake up to a wet ground Friday morning. Luckily, this shortwave is quick moving and will be out of the CWA by the afternoon. The rest of Friday will be dry and pleasant as warmer and drier air continues to move in. High temperatures will be about 5 degrees warmer than Friday, with most locations in the 70s under partly cloudy skies.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 245 PM MDT Wed Sep 17 2025

While periods of active weather will be ongoing during the long term for regions bordering our CWA, our overall area looks to remain mostly quiet as we move into next week. Friday should see clearing precipitation but areas of clouds lingering and highs still in the 70`s for most of the CWA. Moving into the weekend, we`ll see the influence of a ridge moving in to warm our region up, but a passing shortwave to the north should bring just enough energy to produce a few showers or storms mainly in the high terrain or adjacent regions on both Saturday and Sunday. Into Monday a strengthening system will pass across and while we`ll see our temperatures drop once again into the widespread 70`s, the bulk of the moisture associated with this feature will be to our north and east and precipitation chances are expected to be overall fairly meager to nil outside of once again the high terrain. And then by Tuesday ridging starts to build back in as we`ll see temperatures rising once again to move into the middle of next week. Overall there is moderate to high confidence in the forecast with ensembles agreeing on the overall forecast pattern and the features associated within, with the primary discrepancies lying with some minor variances in strength and placement.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 539 AM MDT Thu Sep 18 2025

Low stratus continues to linger across areas east of the Laramie Range, affecting KCYS and western Nebraska terminals. Low stratus will likely continue throughout much of the morning across the Nebraska panhandle, leading to MVFR CIGs. Clouds will lift by late morning/early afternoon, leading to VFR conditions later in the day.
