.SHORT TERM /THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 246 PM CDT Mon Sep 29 2025

An upper trough axis was currently located from eastern UT through NM. The upper flow across western Nebraska was south southwesterly with surface low pressure across WY into CO, with a surface pressure gradient across Nebraska. Southerly winds were gusting as high as 25 to 30 mph.

Tonight, an increase in mid and upper level moisture, as the lower levels below H7 remain very dry. Lows tonight mild from the mid 50s to lower 60s, as southerly winds gust to 25 mph across north central Nebraska.

Tuesday, the surface trough will be positioned across eastern WY and eastern CO, with a surface pressure gradient across SD, NE and KS. This will maintain a breezy southerly wind with gusts up to 30 mph. Highs climbing into the low to mid 80s. Morning cloudiness in the east, then mostly sunny.

Tuesday night, an increase in atmospheric moisture as a weak upper trough moves in. Some of the CAMs as well as the NAM, GFS and ECMWF indicate some very light QPFs possible in the east. With lower levels below 750mb still fairly dry, will keep a dry forecast, although sprinkles or isolated light rain showers may need to be introduced Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 246 PM CDT Mon Sep 29 2025

Wednesday into Thursday, an upper trough will remain across the Pacific Northwest, while upper ridging builds across the Central and Eastern U.S. By Friday into Saturday, the upper trough will advance into the Great Basin. Highs will continue to reach into the 80s Wednesday through Friday, with a cold front moving in Saturday. Slight chance to low end chance POPs begin Friday night and continue through Monday. Highs in the 70s Saturday and Sunday eventually forecast to cool into the 60s by next Monday as cooler Canadian high pressure builds in.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 1245 AM CDT Tue Sep 30 2025

VFR conditions will continue through the forecast period. The main aviation concerns will be gusty winds with LLWS concerns during the overnight periods.

Strengthening flow off the surface tonight should yield some modest LLWS at Valentine. Eventually, winds will translate to the surface after sunrise Tuesday with gusts quickly climbing into the 25 to 30 knot range out of the south. Winds should again relax in the evening but an even stronger LLJ should present more LLWS at VTN, with magnitudes of 40 to 45 knots appearing increasingly probable.
