...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion...

.KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 229 PM EDT Fri Oct 10 2025

- A low pressure system will move along the Georgia coast this weekend, unfortunately it won`t bring significant rainfall to north and central Georgia.

- Dry weather will linger through next week, and combine with warming temperatures to favor continued or worsening drought conditions.

.SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Saturday) Issued at 229 PM EDT Fri Oct 10 2025

This Evening & Tonight:

Scattered rain showers should continue in central Georgia this evening. Overnight, as the upper low enhancing shower activity merges with a coastal low, any rain shower activity should become more confined to east central Georgia. A lack of instability and poor lapse rates should prevent thunderstorms from being a concern this evening. However some light rainfall or drizzle could impact evening activities south of Macon. Rainfall accumulations through the overnight should be light (less than 0.15 inches) and have little to no impact on ongoing drought conditions.

Aside from the small rain chances in central Georgia, tonight will consist of uneventful weather. Low humidity values will allow temperatures to cool quickly this evening in northwest Georgia. This should help morning lows dip to around 50 degrees. The mountains will see lows in the 40s tonight. Elsewhere in the state cloud cover should keep temperature in the mid to upper 50s.

Saturday:

A coastal low will intensify along the Georgia/Florida Coastline on Saturday. Southerly flow east of the low will drive moisture and rainfall north into the Carolinas. Across northern and western Georgia the low will continue to produce northeast flow. This will advect in a mild and dry airmass, prevent any needed precipitation. East central Georgia could see some rain showers or an isolated thunderstorm due to a combination of diurnal heating and proximity to the low Saturday afternoon. Cloud cover in the eastern half of the state should limit afternoon highs to the lower 70s, while more sunshine closer to the Georgia/Alabama border could allow a few spots to breach the 80 degree mark.

.LONG TERM... (Sunday morning through next Thursday) Issued at 229 PM EDT Fri Oct 10 2025

Isolated rain chances may hang on across far eastern GA on Sunday as a coastal low migrates up the East coast. Otherwise, any meaningful rainfall across North and Central GA appears unlikely over the next 7 days. Mid to upper troughing will be lifting northeastward along the East Coast, with broad ridging taking up residence across much of the Central US and stick around through much of next week. The strengthening of this feature will lead to a gradual rise in daytime temperatures each day. Daytime highs will start off in the mid 70s on Sunday warming to the mid 80s towards the middle of next week. Expect temperatures to be 5-10 degrees cooler in the northeast GA mountains. Overnight temperatures will follow suit, starting off in the upper 40s to low 50s rising to the 60s next week. Given the lack of rainfall in the long term forecast, drought conditions are likely to remain the same or worsen.
