.SHORT TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 330 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025
Upper level ridging will allow for surface high pressure to build across the central US through Friday keeping conditions dry for the most part through this timeframe. The exception will be on Friday night as a weak shortwave trough brings some isolated rain shower to the region. Limited instability will not be conducive to thunderstorms and QPF is low at this time, amounting to less than a tenth of an inch.
For tonight...increased low level moisture across southwest and into portions of north central Nebraska combined with light winds and mostly clear skies will create a favorable environment for fog development once again. At this time, anticipating fog to remain patchy with visibilities remaining above 3 miles. However, the latest probabilities suggest seeing less than 3 miles is near 50 percent at times. Therefore, would not be surprised to see some visibilities lower than 3 miles potentially as low as 1 mile across portions of the area. Be prepared for rapidly changing conditions if traveling Friday morning. Due to the light and relatively patchy nature, fog should dissipate by mid morning giving way to a mostly clear forecast.
Warm air advection into the region will push warmer 850 mb temperatures in the 15 to 22 C range into central Nebraska. This warmer airmass will bring mild surface highs to the area through at least the end of the week. Highs on Friday will easily rise into the mid to upper 70s with overnight low temperatures on Friday night only dropping into the low to mid 50s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Issued at 330 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025
High pressure will eventually slide off to the east on Saturday allowing for a more active weather pattern to return beginning on Saturday night. Near daily rain showers return on Saturday night lasting into early next week. While previous forecasts suggested a better chance of rain on Tuesday, the latest runs have backed off on this solution and isolated showers will result in limited QPF across the region.
Continued warm air advection into the region will keep highs on Saturday and Sunday well above normals with most locations rising into the 70s to low 80s on Saturday and into the mid 70s to low 80s on Sunday.
For temperatures beyond Sunday, a weak cold front on Sunday night will drop highs on Monday and Tuesday to below normal in the upper 50s to low 60s. Temperatures will return to near to slight above normals (low 70s) by mid-week. For lows, temperatures will start off in the low 50s to low 60s on Saturday night before falling into the low 30s (northwest) to low 40s (south and east) on Sunday night. At this time no frost/freeze headlines are in place, but this will be something we will be monitoring in the coming days. Lows for the remainder of the extended period only fall into the 40s, which is a few degrees above normals. &&
.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1229 PM CDT Thu Oct 9 2025
Skies will gradually clear through the afternoon becoming mostly sunny for the late afternoon and evening hours. Plenty of low level moisture will result in a return to some patchy fog across portions of southwest Nebraska early Friday morning. At this time, any development should be light with visibility restrictions only down to 5 miles expected. Will continue to monitor this overnight and make adjustments as needed. Otherwise, fog will remain south of KVTN with VFR conditions expected through Friday morning after fog lifts by mid-morning.
