.KEY MESSAGES...
* A series of disturbances will roll through the Western US this week, bringing isolated showers to the Great Basin and breezy, dry conditions to the rest of the region.

.DISCUSSION...through Sunday.
The first in a series of shortwaves will approach the West Coast today, rolling through the Great Basin tomorrow. This first disturbance will bring a 20 to 40% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms to the eastern Sierra and southern Great Basin today and tomorrow, with breezy 15 to 25 mph wind gusts across the region each afternoon. As this system rolls through, we will find ourselves under southwesterly-to-westerly flow aloft, which will help flush moisture from the region. A cut-off low will push into the Pacific Northwest later this week, before opening up and digging south into our forecast area. While there remains uncertainty regarding the timing and strength of this trough, we can expect breezy winds and cooler conditions to accompany it. These cooler temperatures look to stick around as long-term guidance shows this trough-y pattern continuing through the weekend and into early next week.
