A large area of high pressure will build into the Upper Midwest
and western Great Lakes area tonight, leading to light N to NE
winds and cool temperatures. Forecast lows for eastern Iowa and
northwest Illinois are in the upper 30s to mid 40s (coldest
along/north of Highway 20). Patchy to Areas of fog may develop
after 9-10 PM tonight south of I-80 where winds are forecast to
be light & variable and surface dewpoints will be holding in
the mid 40s to mid 50s. The HRRR and RAP are highlighting the
area around Burlington and points to the south/southwest as the
most likely locations to have a period of fog, which could be
locally dense.

A pleasant weekend is in store, with temperatures in the upper 60s
to lower 70s Saturday and lower 70s (north) to upper 70s central and
south Sunday. Through Sunday afternoon, dry weather is confidently
forecast, as a ridge of high pressure moves through the region.
Breezy conditions (SE 15-30 mph) combined with well above
normal temperatures on Sunday will lead to elevated fire weather
conditions for unharvested fields, especially NW of the Quad
Cities. Following the high pressure ridge, Sunday night and
Monday may see some shower and thunderstorm activity as a shortwave
moves through the Upper Midwest. The latest NBM has 20-40%
chances for rain north and west of the Quad Cities.
Looking Tuesday through Thursday, another passing high pressure
system at the surface is forecast by the bulk of available
guidance, resulting in pleasant temperatures in the 60s and 70s
each day, and lows in the 40s and 50s. There could be a few
bouts of passing showers as upper level energy moves east over
the broad upper ridge which is indicated by models over the
southern CONUS.

VFR conditions will likely persist throughout the TAF period.
Winds this evening will begin from the north in the wake of a
weak front that passed through earlier in the day, slowly
turning more northeasterly late tonight, becoming easterly in
the late morning/afternoon hours Saturday. Winds should remain
less than 10 knots. Confidence in fog at BRL has continued to
decrease, so have kept any visibility reductions out of the BRL
TAF. If any fog does develop there, dry air filtering in from
the north could make it only for a brief period of time.
