1944 - A very destructive hurricane swept across Cape Hatteras and Chesapeake Bay, side swiped New Jersey and Long Island, and crossed southeastern Massachusetts. The hurricane killed more than four hundred persons, mainly at sea. The hurricane destroyed the Atlantic City NJ boardwalk.

Kalkaska ( kal-KASS-kÉ™) is a village in the U.S. state of Michigan. Its population was 2,132 at the 2020 census, an increase from 2,020 at the 2010 census.
Kalkaska is part of the Traverse City metropolitan area and a bedroom community of nearby Traverse City. The village has hosted the National Trout Festival since 1935.
