.DISCUSSION... Issued at 309 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Today...

Temperatures this morning are sitting in the 50s to low 60s. A cold front from a passing shortwave is steadily moving southeast across the area (As of 3AM located along a line from Alma to Hastings to York). Northerly winds behind the front will increase this morning, gusting 20-25mph. A slightly cooler day is expected across the area in the wake of the cold frontal passage. Highs will be in the mid 70s to mid 80s, warmest across north central Kansas. Clear skies and light winds tonight will result temperatures sinking into the low 50s, with upper 40s possible across far northwestern portions of the area.

Sunday...

Ridging builds over the Midwest on Sunday with troughing over the southwestern U.S. which places the forecast area under southwesterly flow. In this southwesterly flow, highs climb back above normal across the area, with highs in the 80s. As of late, temperatures have been on the higher side of model guidance on days similar to Sunday, so wouldn`t be surprised to see southern portions of the area to see highs near 90 degrees. Lows Sunday night will be in the upper 50s to low 60s.

Next Week...

Southwesterly flow aloft persists through the end of the forecast period. This will result in temperatures remaining above their climatological normals (normal highs in the mid-upper 70s), with highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 50s-low 60s. Rain chances remain fairly elusive through the middle of next week with no notable disturbances moving into the Plains. The next best chance for rain looks to be at the end of the forecast period (Friday night onwards) as a more robust trough moves into the Plains though there remains a fair amount of model spread on the details of this system.
