Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 848 AM PDT Tue Sep 23 2025

.SYNOPSIS...Conditions will trend drier and warmer across Western Washington through midweek. Light winds under high pressure may bring the return of smoke aloft at times from area fires. The warmest days are likely Tuesday and Wednesday, with typical late September weather returning as temperature trend toward normal and approaching disturbances bring rain chances back to the region by late Friday and especially deeper in the weekend.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...The latest forecast remains on track with no updates this morning. High pressure continues to build in place over the region today and tomorrow. This will provident for plenty of sunshine and temperatures warming back into the 70s for most of the interior lowlands of western Washington. Weak offshore flow is likely to develop today and tomorrow, with the potential for some smoke from fires across the region to move into the area. Not much change into Wednesday as the ridge remains in place and another mild and sunny day is expected. The ridge begins to weaken towards Thursday with a return of onshore low-level flow as the upper level flow becomes more zonal. This will bring temperatures back down a few degrees, and spread some additional cloud cover into the region. However, this initial disturbance appears quite weak and little if any precipitation is expected.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...Looking ahead, ensemble guidance remains somewhat split with the evolution of the pattern late this week and into the weekend. Ensemble members remain rather evenly split into two camps - one keeping the majority of the precipitation from the region into the start of the weekend, while the other would allow some leading moisture to work onshore by late Friday. Nevertheless, there`s more significant agreement that another more widespread push of moisture crosses western Washington by Sunday. Temperatures likely to remain near seasonally normal values this weekend into the start of next week.

&&

.AVIATION...An upper level ridge remains over the region today with west to southwest flow aloft. The low level flow is weakly offshore. Apart from patchy LIFR stratus in some of the river valleys this morning, VFR conditions will prevail.

KSEA...Clear skies. Surface winds light N/NE this morning will become northerly 8 to 11 knots this afternoon.

.MARINE...Thermally induced low pressure along the coast will shift inland tonight and Wednesday as a broad surface ridge offshore expands into the coastal waters. This will lead to increasing onshore flow. A dissipating frontal system will reach the area at the end of the week.
