Scattered light rainshowers continue this afternoon across areas
of northeast Alabama, primarily south of Dekalb County at this
time. The temperature forecast remains on track, with locations
west of I-65 currently in the l80s-m80s range, and areas east of
I-65 in the u70s-l80s. Through the rest of the afternoon, an
upper level disturbance is forecast to move south on the backside
of the upper level low currently situated over the carolinas. This
disturbance will provide sufficient lift and moisture to support
a low chance of rain, primarily affecting areas east of I-65. Rain
chances should dwindle overnight, with little to no rain
expected. Overnight, mostly clear skies in addition to light
winds should allow for a decent radiational cooling setup to
occur, promoting some patchy fog development in fog prone
regions, in addition to locations that receive measurable
rainfall. Low temperatures will dip into the l60s-m60s tonight.

Upper level ridging will build over the Ohio and Tennessee
valleys on Wednesday then shift east over the Appalachians by
Thursday. Meanwhile, the aforementioned surface inverted trough
looks to shift to the northwest of our local area as high pressure
digs down from Canada and over the northeastern portion of the
CONUS. Additionally, Hi-Res model guidance indicates that much
drier air will be filtered into the region from the northeast
beginning on Wednesday and persisting through late week, resulting
in much more pleasant conditions (less humid). Thus, no showers
or storms are forecast for Wednesday and Thursday at this time.
Temperatures on Wednesday are expected to be similar to today
(Tuesday), with highs in the lower to mid 80s east of I-65 and in
the mid to upper 80s west of I-65. Lows will then drop into the
lower to mid 60s Wednesday night. As more dry air is filtered into
the region from the northeast on Thursday, highs in the upper 70s
to lower 80s are likely for northeast Alabama and southern middle
Tennessee. Highs in the lower to mid 80s are anticipated for most
other locations.

The late week period will shape up to be pretty nice as high pressure
centered over the Northeast continues to enforce a dry and cooler
airmass down into the Tennessee Valley. The upper ridge will slowly
meander to the east toward the later half of the weekend and there is
some evidence of a shortwave disturbance preceding an upper trough
that may bring chances for showers and storms on Sunday. This
appears to be an outlier for now, but will need to monitor trends as
we get to the later part of the week. We will maintain a dry forecast
through Monday with highs in the upper 70s/mid 80s each afternoon and
lows in the mid 50s to mid 60s.

Low chances (10-20%) of showers and storms will continue for
areas east of I-65 through the afternoon and early evening before
tapering off. Confidence is low whether this will affect the HSV
terminal, but this will be monitored. There is also a low chance
of patchy fog development overnight, particularly for northeast
Alabama and for places that receive rainfall today. Not confident
that this will have a big effect on HSV, but included a slight
reduction in VIS later tonight. Any fog will dissipate with
sunrise Wednesday morning and a dry day is forecast to follow.
Northeast winds between 5-10 knots this afternoon will become
light and variable this evening. Expecting easterly winds around 5
knots or so by late Wednesday morning and into the early
afternoon.
