.SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday) Issued at 628 AM EDT Wed Oct 8 2025

Scattered light rain showers dot portions of north Georgia early this morning ahead of a cold front currently analyzed across the Tennessee Valley. Meanwhile, areas of fog, some locally dense, will be possible in portions of east-central Georgia this morning. The front will make progress into northwest Georgia by sunrise and continue southeastward through the day. Ongoing showers are expected to diminish in coverage through mid-morning amid continued loss of instability. However, as SBCAPE recovers over 500 J/kg by early afternoon ahead of the front for areas south of I-20, additional scattered showers and a couple of isolated thunderstorms are expected to redevelop and push southward through central Georgia through this evening. QPF will remain limited overall and certainly not enough to improve worsening drought conditions. Though a few lucky spots could max out with totals near a half inch, most areas will receive under a tenth to quarter of an inch through tonight. Temperatures today will climb well above seasonal normals as cooler, drier air will lag in the wake of the front. As such, highs ranging from the low to mid 80s north to near 90 in far southern counties can be expected.

Cooler, drier air will begin to arrive overnight as surface high pressure transitions eastward across the Great Lakes toward upstate New York. This will translate into the onset of a "wedge" surface pattern locally overnight into Thursday, returning a fresh northeasterly breeze. Thursday will bring far more October-like conditions as highs will remain in the low to mid 70s for most as drier dewpoints begin to filter in amid the northeasterly breeze.

.LONG TERM... (Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 628 AM EDT Wed Oct 8 2025

With the development of high amplitude mid-level troughing spanning the majority of ECONUS throughout the day Friday -- a feature which lingers through the entirety of the extended range -- north and central Georgia look to remain in a regime of deep northwesterly flow at the mid-levels for several days. With a continuous stream of dry, continental air aloft, precipitation chances remain negligible (
