Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Binghamton NY 644 AM EDT Mon Sep 29 2025

.SYNOPSIS... High pressure will produce a prolonged period of dry weather across the area through the entire week. Temperatures will remain well above average through Tuesday, before much cooler, more fall like air moves in Wednesday and Thursday. There is even the potential for some areas of frost, Wednesday and Thursday nights, especially in the sheltered valleys.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TUESDAY/... Broad surface high pressure centered over the area with weak ridging aloft will lead to another very warm day today for late September. Areas of morning valley fog will clear between 12-14Z, giving way to sunshine. A blanket of high clouds associated with the tropical activity off the Southeast coast will gradually push north late this morning and into the afternoon, especially across NE PA, but skies will still generally be partly to mostly sunny despite the filtered sunshine. Highs this afternoon will range from the mid 70s to near 80 degrees. The shield of high clouds will stick around tonight and then retreat to the south and east during the day Tuesday. Lows tonight will be mainly in the upper 40s to the mid 50s. NE PA will turn out mostly sunny by Tuesday afternoon, while CNY sees bright sunshine throughout the day. High temperatures will remain above average for one more day Tuesday with much of the area well into the 70s. The Wyoming and Delaware River Valleys in NE PA will make a run at 80 degrees.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/... A fresh, sprawling surface high centered over northern Ontario and Quebec will push south and east Tuesday night into Wednesday and remain centered over the region into Thursday promoting continued dry conditions. This Canadian high will be drawing in much cooler air from the north, bringing the return of more fall-like conditions. High temperatures are expected to be near to slightly below average Wednesday and Thursday. Highs Wednesday will mostly be in the low to mid 60s, with some of the higher terrain in CNY and the Catskills stuck in the 50s, while a few of the valleys in NE PA remain a bit warmer in the upper 60s to near 70. Highs will be generally in the 60s areawide on Thursday. With this much cooler air mass settling in, there is the potential for areas of frost Wednesday night into early Thursday. With the growing season still active, there looks to be a good chance for some frost advisories as we get closer with lows ranging from the mid 30s to the low 40s. Parts of the Catskills and toward the Tug Hill can be even colder closer to the freezing mark.

&&

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/... Areas of frost may be possible again Thursday night, mainly in the sheltered valleys in the Catskills and toward the Tug Hill, then we`ll have a moderating trend once again in terms of temperatures Friday into the weekend ending our brief taste of autumn.

Surface high pressure will continue dominating our weather pattern through the weekend and potentially beyond keeping conditions dry. This surface high is expected to gradually slide to the east and become centered off the coast, setting up more of a southerly flow which will advect in warmer air, especially by Saturday and Sunday. Highs are expected to rise from the upper 60s and low 70s Friday to the mid 70s to near 80 degrees by Sunday. Overnight lows also rise back into the 40s and 50s.

&&

.AVIATION /12Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Valley fog across the area with current IFR and lower conditions at RME and ELM will lift by mid-morning. High pressure will bring VFR conditions into the overnight hours across the area with winds light and variable. Fog may once again return to ELM and RME tonight, but confidence is not high as high clouds are expected across the area through the evening hours and wind above the surface may be strong enough to stave off fog development. Given the climatology of ELM, confidence is high enough to include TEMPO LIFR conditions tonight with patchy fog developing.

Outlook...

Tuesday through Friday...Mainly VFR, other than typical valley fog formation especially KELM late each night through dawn each morning.

&&

.BGM WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... PA...None. NY...None.
