.SYNOPSIS... A cold front will continue to push offshore tonight with gusty northwest winds in its wake. A cut off low near the Mid Atlantic will migrate northward early next week and will bring a chance for rain Sunday night into Monday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... A cold front is now pushing offshore with gusty northwest winds in its wake through this evening. A cooler and drier airmass will work into the area overnight while a subtle short wave crossing northern Maine may trigger isolated rain or snow showers near the Canadian Border through the first part of tonight. The cooler airmass will bring temperatures down into the upper 20s across northern zones and mid to low 30s across the interior. Southeast NH and coastal Maine will see lows around 40 degrees. Winds will stay elevated tonight and may inhibit frost formation. Sheltered areas within active zones along the interior may still be able to see some frost and have issued a Frost Advisory across these zones.
&&
.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT/... High pressure centered over the Great Lakes will gradually build in through the day Thursday. A tight NNW gradient will bring gusty NW winds up to 30 mph. Despite ample sunshine the cooler airmass will limit highs to the 40s north to 50s south. Strong winds combined with cooler air will bring windchills below freezing in the mountains.
High pressure will crest over the region Thursday night setting up efficient radiational cooling. This will likely be the coldest night of the season with lows ranging from near 20 degrees across the north to near 30 degrees across the south with widespread freezes likely. Have issued a Freeze Watch for all remaining active zones.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... Overview...
High pressure remains in place across New England through the end of the week and into the weekend. Low pressure stalls south of New England late this week, and slowly moves northward through the weekend. Impacts from this system are possible by early next week.
Details...
High pressure brings continued dry conditions for the end of the week and into the weekend. Temperatures moderate on Friday and Saturday, with high ranging from the low 60s across the north to upper 60s along the coast by Saturday. Nighttime temps remain cool, with a frost or freeze likely again Thursday night away from the coastline.
By Sunday the low pressure center makes some northward progress along the East Coast. An east-northeasterly wind develops along the coast, with high clouds increasing through the day across southern areas. This keeps temps a bit lower across southern areas, giving generally low to mid 60s across the area, with more sunshine across the north.
By early next week moisture makes northward progress into New England. Just how far north and how quickly remains in question. The GFS remains more progressive with more moisture reaching the area by late Sunday and Monday. The Euro, it`s ensembles, and AI models generally have less moisture and later northward progress until the Tuesday-Wednesday timeframe, but are starting to show signs of a northward trend with weaker blocking to the north.
Currently POPs allow for the chance of rain starting Sunday night and into early next week across southern and coastal areas. Should the northward trends continue, these would need to be raised, and coastal winds may also have to be monitored for some stronger northeasterly gusts.

.AVIATION /18Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... Short Term...Northwest winds will gust around 20 kts through sunset. Drier air moving in will allow for prevailing VFR tonight and Thursday. VFR likely prevails Thursday night outside of valley fog.
Long Term...VFR prevails at all terminals during the daytime through Sunday. Nighttime valley fog is possible each night, especially at LEB, HIE, and CON. Restrictions are then possible by early next week, especially along the coast, as a coastal low brings an increasing chance of rain.
&&
.MARINE... Short Term...Gusty northwest winds will continue SCA conditions tonight into Thursday afternoon. As high pressure builds in from the west, winds will relax Thursday night.
Long Term...High pressure brings fair conditions to the waters through early Sunday. Seas and winds build starting on Sunday as a coastal low moves up the the Eastern Seaboard. SCA conditions are possible by late Sunday, with gales possible across the outer waters by Monday.
