.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... Issued at 228 AM MDT Fri Sep 26 2025

Another mostly quiet day is expected today as upper-level ridging remains in place. An upper-level trough is moving into the CONUS from the Pacific Ocean this morning and will quickly advect easterly throughout the morning hours, impacting the region later this morning into the early afternoon hours. Dry conditions leading up to this trough will prevent any precipitation this afternoon, though a few more clouds may be in the sky. The associated 700mb trough will traverse just to the north of the CWA, but westerly flow at the base of the trough will still be present across the Laramie Range. With a meager 700mb jet around 30 to 35kts and strong low-level lapse rates, some of these winds will mix down to the surface. As a result, winds will increase significantly across the wind prone regions and downstream of the Laramie Range. High Winds are not expected, but gusts approaching 40 to 45 mph cannot be ruled out in most locations east of the Laramie Range. With downsloping from these winds, drier conditions are expected leading to elevated fire weather concerns this afternoon as humidity values drop into the 15 to 20 percent range for a portion of the afternoon. Some values may briefly drop into the 14 to 16 percent range with the gusty winds, but three consecutive hours are not expected and, therefore, not fire weather headlines have been issued. Saturday will be another quiet day with winds subsiding Friday evening. Temperatures remain warm, in the low-70s to low-80s both Friday and Saturday. Precipitation is not expected.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Issued at 207 PM MDT Thu Sep 25 2025

Pretty benign weather across the CWA to start the long term as the region remains under high pressure, bringing pleasant weather conditions. Highs Saturday will top out in the 70s to low 80s under clear skies. For Sunday, some minor changes are in store as a low over southern California begins to have some impacts into our region. As this low slowly drifts east, it amplifies an upper level ridge to our east over the Central Plains and increases southerly flow into our neck of the woods. Energy aloft will ride up into our CWA along with moisture, this coupled with GFS Omega fields indicating upward motion in the atmosphere, will work together to increase chances of precipitation and isolated thunderstorms, primarily over our western zones Sunday afternoon. The set-up on Monday is somewhat similar with the threat generally over the same area during the afternoon hours. Precipitation chances decrease thereafter for the remainder of the long term with no substantial impacts into our CWA. Temperatures next week will be relatively pleasant as 700MB temps remain in the 7 to 11C range. This translates to the mid 60s to lowers 70s at the surface for areas west of I-25 and the mid 70s to mid 80s east of the corridor, with the warmest temperature across the Nebraska Panhandle. Winds are not of much concern with the strongest winds in the typical windier areas and across the higher terrain, gusts should top out to near 30 mph.

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z SATURDAY/... Issued at 1122 AM MDT Fri Sep 26 2025

An upper level disturbance will slide east across our CWA today, this will bring back high-level clouds, around 20K feet, and stronger winds. In general, expect surface winds to gust up to 25 knots, locally higher, and then decrease this afternoon sometime after 00Z for all terminals. High-level clouds are expected to stick around through this TAF period.
