Camden County is the most populous county in the southern region of the U.S. state of New Jersey. Its county seat is Camden. As of the 2020 census, the county was the state's ninth-most populous county, with a population of 523,485, its highest decennial count ever and an increase of 9,828 (+1.9%) from the 2010 census count of 513,657, which in turn reflected an increase of 4,725 (0.9%) from the 508,932 counted in the 2000 census. The United States Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program estimated a 2024 population of 533,988, an increase of 10,503 (+2.0%) from the 2020 decennial census. The county is part of the South Jersey region of the state.
The most populous place was Cherry Hill with 74,553 residents in the 2020 census, and its geographically largest municipality is Winslow Township, which covers 58.19 square miles (150.7 km2). The county borders Philadelphia, the nation's sixth-most populous city, to its northwest.
The county was formed on March 13, 1844, from portions of Gloucester County. The county was named for Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden, a British judge, civil libertarian, and defender of the American cause. Camden County is part of the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington PA-NJ-DE-MD metropolitan statistical area, also known as the Delaware Valley.
